A few weeks ago I had a long interview with Eric Rosen, the founding artistic director of Chicago's premier queer-themed theater company About Face Theatre. Word had leaked that he was in talks to take the reins at Kansas City Rep next season; when I talked to him he confirmed that negotiations were underway, but they weren't at a point where he could make an announcement.
Late Tuesday evening, About Face made it official. "Though it's incredibly sad for me to leave Chicago and my home theatre, the appointment at Kansas City Repertory Theatre is an incredible honor and an extraordinary opportunity," said Rosen in a statement. "The Rep will maintain close ties with Chicago artists under my leadership, and I look forward to continuing to build relationships in Chicago with About Face and the many great arts institutions with which we have partnered over the past 12 years."
In our interview Rosen talked extensively about his experiences in the Chicago theater world over the last 15 years, many of which made their way into his new work Wedding Play, which opened this weekend at the Steppenwolf Garage. If you haven't read it yet (and not to toot my own horn), we posted an extended version of my interview on the web, and it's a good read.
